Pity Party. Wanna come? March 4, 2009

Filed under: Dogs, Family — Kate @ 8:01 am

Yesterday Wells left (again) for the states to see to the potential buying of his company, Synthis. To his credit, he really has no choice. He is damned if he doesn’t go, and he is damned (by me) if he does go. Wells is truly stuck between a rock and a hard place. I wonder if I am the rock or the hard place? I had a whole week of tennis scheduled and other outdoor activities planned as well but it has not stopped raining since he left. Life imitating art I guess because I feel rainy when he is gone. I have been ferociously reading instead. Here is a list of books that I have read since we have been in Spain.

The Pillars of the Earth, by Ken Follett

The Road, by Cormac McCarthy

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, by John Boyne

Atonement, by Ian McEwan

The Book Thief, by Markus Zusak  ***almost finished…will be done by the time this posts***

What are some of your all time favorite books? Please send me your recommendations in the “Comments” section of this post. (”Comments” is located at the bottom right of the post in green text.) I can’t wait to see your list!

The dogs are even depressed at Wells’ absence and the rain. Pitiful!

Ok, Kate here are some I really love ( although I may have the authors names spelled wrong:
The Outlander Series…Diane Gabaldon. Jamie Fraser will get you down the road a long ways and are perfect for raniny days.
An American Wife…Sittenfeld (sp) quite a page turner
The Dogs of Bedlam Farm, Dog Days, Soul of a Dog, A Dog Year, A Good Dog…all by Jon Katz ( I have abbreviated the length of title for email.
When all else fails I reread Rosumunde Pilcher since I love English novels and her September takes place in Spain for part of the story. Hang in there, miss you, Love, Karen

A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson is hysterical! You will be crying you are laughing so hard. I also second the Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon. Each book is about 700 pages and you can’t put them down. Thanks for the daily dose of humor. Miss you! M.A.

  15. Kate Says:

THanks MA! Will add to the list. You are the second person to mention Walk in the Woods.

    Kate,
You must read “Death in the Afternoon”/Hemingway before you go to Rhonda. Good old Ernie actually transports you to the ring through the written word! One of my favorites when I am missing Spain. Then you can discuss it with the Ordonez brothers (Francisco Ribero and Cayetano). Not so bad to look at and they sure can fight bulls! The story is about their grandfather, Antonio who was a great matador and also Hemingway’s very best friend.
